Christmas presents Sonrise Ministries 2018

We would like to give the children and caregivers at Sonrise Ministries and the families in Masese – a slum area in Jinja – individual presents to brighten up their Christmas. With 20 Euro for a certain child or a freely selectable amount for the “big pot” we can buy educational toys, clothes, hygiene articles and food locally and thus prepare an unforgettable Christmas for everyone. We have changed the project a little bit. Of course you can continue to choose a child directly. The amount per child is still 20 Euro. However, the “big pot” is new. You may pay any amount into this pot, if you do not want to decide for a specific child. At the end of the project we then divide this amount between the children without direct donors, the caregivers of Sonrise Ministries and the families of Masese. At the end of the pageWeiterlesen / Continue reading

Parcels on the way

On 18th of August we sorted again commodity items, packed parcels and already the one or other suitcase for our trip in December. Thanks to your donations we were able to send a total of four parcels to Uganda with urgently needed clothes, shoes, school materials, toys, books and much more. Thanks of course also to our lovely helpers Doris, Gabi, Hadeel, Lena, Linda, Nina, Nora, Sameh and Sarah. You were a great team. This time the packing process was connected with very much melancholy, since it is probably the last time that we will send parcels to Uganda. The EAC (East African Community) has decided for the protection of the domestic market that commodity items have to be limited and sent with very high customs duties to some East African countries. This also includes Uganda. Nevertheless, we always collect some commodity items, which we then take with us onWeiterlesen / Continue reading

Two big donations

Great things happened in May. We received two big donations for the construction projects we support in Uganda. In agreement with the sponsors, one donation will be used to expand the new residential building in Wakikoola for the girls of Mirembe Cottage. In this way, we are also helping to ensure that the building can be completed before the girls are expected to move into their new home in August. There they will then live nearby to their new school, which already opened in February. Up to 60 girls can be accommodated in this house. This will allow Mirembe to provide twice as many girls with a safe home away from the streets as before. The second donation will be used to build another school for the Sonrise Children’s Home in Kamuli. The school system in Uganda consists of three different schools. Nursery School for children aged 3 to 6, Primary School forWeiterlesen / Continue reading

Construction Sonrise Children’s Home

Until 2017 the Sonrise Children’s Home was situated in a rented building which didn’t provide enough room for the increasing number of children for some time. Thanks to some donations we were able to buy a piece of land in Kamuli which is roughly a two-hours drive away from Jinja. There are several reasons why we bought a piece of land that far away. It was not only the prize, but also the Sonrise Ministries founders’ vision to help people not only within but also outside of their own organisation. The extensive project envisages the construction of several buildings like a number of residential buildings for the children and staff, some school buildings, water wells, sanitary facilities, solar collectors, offices, a cafeteria, a hospital, a library, a guest house, a farm and many more. The project will be realised according to the incoming amount of donations. It will alsoWeiterlesen / Continue reading

Commodity items Sonrise Ministries

Unfortunately, we had to stop shipping in the previous form. The East African Community has decided to deduct high customs duties on the import of commodity items in order to protect their domestic markets. In the meantime this makes the shipment no longer profitable despite the great demand of the Sonrise Ministries. We will try to cover quite a bit via the local market. After all, boosting the local economy is also an important part of helping people to help themselves. However, we are still looking for and collecting some commodity items. We take these with us directly in our suitcases when we travel to Uganda. We currently have the greatest need for the following commodity items:   baby bottles and/or pacifiers for baby bottles brushes for baby bottles toothbrushes, electrical shavers/clipping machines, razors, razor blades, nail scissors, hair-bands, brushes, combs, product samples of any kind torches/ headlights crayons, pens,Weiterlesen / Continue reading
