Construction Mirembe Cottage of Street Girls

Until 2017, the Mirembe Cottage of Street Girls was situated in a rented building which doesn’t have provided enough room for the increasing number of girls for quite some time. Thanks to some donations we were able to buy a piece of land in Wakikoola which is only a few minutes away from Jinja. With this project the founders of Sonrise Ministries also want to help people who don’t belong to their organisation.

The extensive project envisages the construction of several buildings like two residential buildings, one for the girls and one for the staff, several school buildings, one water well, sanitary facilities, solar collectors, a defensive wall, a cafeteria, a small hospital and many more. The project will be realised according to the incoming amount of donations. It will also benefit the surrounding community which currently lacks a school, a hospital and only offers a few jobs nearby.

The residential building was completed in August 2018 and has already been occupied. Some of the school buildings were put into operation in February 2018, with the other school buildings following in the subsequent years. In addition, a building for the kitchen and a sewing class have already been constructed. Before the association was founded, 15,000 Euros had already been collected for the residential building. Currently, the most urgent need is for donations for the construction of a small clinic, as there is no medical care in the surrounding area.

Clinic in Wakikoola

🏥 August 23, 2025: It’s happening – Construction of the Clinic in Wakikoola has begun! 💜

We’re thrilled to share the news that construction of the small clinic in Wakikoola has officially started! The approval process took a long time – especially due to delays caused by the upcoming elections – but now the permit is in place, and the work can begin.

Today, the land is being leveled, and tomorrow the foundation will be excavated. This marks a major milestone for a region that currently has no access to medical care. This small clinic will be life-changing for many people.

As excited as we are, we’re still facing a significant funding gap. So far, we’ve only been able to raise about half of the required funds.

💬 Would you like to be part of this special project? Every contribution – big or small – brings us closer to making this clinic a reality.
