Projects combined

Our experience with the Peaces Hope website has shown that we still have to work on setting up and distributing our projects. So we decided to combine some projects and reduce their overall number. In the future, we want to concentrate on one construction project per home. The projects medicine, urgent needs and parcel delivery have been combined. This will enable us to respond even more effectively to the most urgent needs on site.

Schools in operation

Today is a very special day for us. The Sonrise Children’s Home School and the Mirembe Cottage of Street Girls School are both starting today. From now onwards Sonrise and Mirembe will save the school fees for the children and can now reallocated that money to other important running costs. The children in the surrounding area also benefit from the schools as they would otherwise have little access to education.

Change in the farming project

We made a change to the farming project. The selection of the species has been removed. The animals that have already been purchased are procreating and therefore the demand is constantly changing. Sometimes it doesn’t make sense to donate for pigs, because Sonrise or Mirembe need turkeys. We have also added seeds, fences, stables, animal feed and transport of the animals to this project. Of course, donors can still use the comment field to express their wishes if they wish to sponsor a specific animal for Sonrise or Mirembe.

New arrival at Sonrise Baby’s Home

On January 5th, 2018 we received a new baby to the Sonrise Baby’s Home. Brian, 3 weeks old. His mother died giving birth to him. His father, a farmer, can’t take care of him. He works very hard to feed himself and his siblings. For this reason, he has too little time and too little money for a newborn baby. It’s reassuring to know that Brian is now receiving the perfect care of Auntie Peace.

Diary Team-trip 2017/2018

From 13 December 2017 to 10 January 2018 we will be back in Uganda. At this point, we would like to report to you on a daily basis what we have done and how we have used your donations. Have fun reading.   10.01.2018 In the middle of the night we drive to the airport. At 5 a.m. our first flight to Istanbul starts before continuing to Düsseldorf. We hope that our luggage will not end up in Istanbul this time. Since we have a four-hour stopover, we’ll sit down in a café. We can hardly believe when suddenly a friend of Bea, Mati and Helder shows up there and he will even travel back with us. In the plane we meet another friend. Coincidences happens 😀 Arrived in Düsseldorf the fear begins, whether the suitcases are there this time. It takes a long time until the first suitcase isWeiterlesen / Continue reading

Toothbrush donation from Humble

It was a great pleasure that we unpacked the packages from Humble. Humble donated 700 toothbrushes to our health campaign in Uganda. Humble produces toothbrushes from bamboo. On the one hand to reduce the use of plastic and on the other hand because bamboo is an extremely sustainable product. Easy and fast regrowing. We are excited about the idea and quality of the products and are looking forward to distributing the toothbrushes to many children and adults in Uganda as part of a toothbrush training course.

Tooth brushing training

We are planning a health care campaign in Sonrise Children’s Home newly built school block which will take place in December. We will distribute reading glasses to children and adults and teach them the ins and outs of tooth brushing.  Most of the population in the area doesn’t have access to basic health care. Peace’s Hope collected more than 1,000 tooth pastes and 700 tooth brushes so that the newly learnt skills can be practiced at home. Those items will be handed out to the training participants upon completion. Thanks a lot for all the kind contributions to this campaign.    Just few weeks ago we learnt in a very useful session how to actually brush your teeth correctly. This session has been led by Dr. Karin Bode-Haack who successfully reminded all of us of this basic skill.  There is indeed quite a big difference how to brush your toothWeiterlesen / Continue reading

Parcels sent

After sending 13 parcels to Uganda in August, we now managed to send 4 more parcels. Kind donors made this happen.  On the 18th November 6 keen helpers (Nina Jungholt, Nina Fitschen, Sameh Fares, Hadeel Khallouf, Gabi Haak and Silvana Pölitz) met to pack these parcels. We are not only sending clothes and shoes but also toys and other useful items.       In December eight travelers will start their trip to the Sonrise Ministries. This year the program has a clear focus: the health care campaign.  In the last weeks we collected tooth paste, brushes and reading glasses that we will distribute in Uganda. These items will also travel the long haul – in the travelers’ personal luggage.  We fitted 1000 tooth pastes, 536 tooth brushes for children, 161 tooth brushes for adults and 800 reading glasses in 7 suitcases (each 23 kg). It wasn’t an easy taskWeiterlesen / Continue reading
